Shakespeare at the Mill
‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Directed by Richard McCubbin
Inspired by the Globe Theatre, a cast of local actors bring Shakespeare’s most well-loved comedies to the atmospheric and stripped back setting of Sam Mahon’s Mill in Waikari.
Ancient Athens becomes modern day Christchurch, and the Duke and his Court the power brokers of our city. Four star crossed lovers from the city find themselves in the unfamiliar and magic world of the bush of North Canterbury, where they collide with Oberon, Fairy King of the High Country, his trouble making side kick, Puck, and Queen Titania with her Bush Fairies. Throw into the mix a group of Coarse Actors rehearsing their play and you have a recipe for an unforgettable night of chaos where the boundary of reality and dreaming becomes blurred.
Congratulations to Richard and the gang from HTG. Fantastic effort, polished performances and well supported by the community.
Costume Storage
Thanks to the Waipara Memorial Hall committee for allowing us the use of the archives room to store costumes during our show periods. It will make life a lot easier for our costume team.
Also thanks to Joe Bruerton for making us some fantastic new hanging frames for the new room.
